Amazon’s Stricter Title Requirements from January 21st

Amazon title requirements

Students of How to Start an Amazon FBA Store on a Tight Budget are already in the know when it comes to creating the best titles for their product listings. Following specific guidelines such as keeping titles concise, writing titles that flow, and including the most important keywords are all important aspects of a good title.

On January 21st, 2025, Amazon introduced some new rules around titles.

Rule 1 – Special characters are not allowed. That means exclamation marks, question marks, brackets, etc. The only exception is if the special character is part of a brand name.

Rule 2 – Repeating the same word more than twice is not allowed.

Both of these rules make complete sense. Special characters in titles are distracting, and they look ‘spammy.’ Repeating words is a waste of title space. There is a limit of 200 characters, including spaces, but even that is too long for most listings. If possible, Amazon recommends keeping titles to 80 characters to make them more mobile-friendly.

What happens to titles that are not updated to reflect the new requirements?

According to Amazon, any titles not updated after 14 days (from Jan 21st) will be automatically updated. However, when new title requirements came into play in the past, it took Amazon many months or longer to automatically update all titles that did not comply with the new rules.
